Profile
Emily is pursuing her degree in Industrial Microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez. Her scientific passion began by developing bacterial genetic circuits to aid in biodegradation of mercury and RDX on a bomb-test field site on the Puerto Rican Island of Vieques. During Summer 2021, she studied the genetics of individualistic preference behavior at Florida Atlantic University in Duboue Laboratory. In the future, she is interested in studying the genetic underpinnings of psychiatric disorders. Her goal is to become a physician-scientist, and she hopes to discover better therapies for depression and anxiety. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her cat, cooking, and taking salsa lessons.
