Roland Del Mundo
Profile
Roland is currently a junior at the University of California, Davis studying Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. Roland is interested in researching the effects of pharmacological supplementation to treat Prostate Cancer health disparities. After completing a course studying the Neurobiology of Addictive Drugs, he has developed a deep interest in learning about the mechanisms of different agents and their effects on human health. His interest in pharmacological research arose from a family member who passed away from Prostate Cancer. The majority of Roland's research has been working with different Prostate Cancer cell lines such as 22Rv1, MDA–PCa–2b, PC–3, and LNCaP cells and studying the antiproliferative and cytotoxic effects of 1α25(OH)2D3, Cholecalciferol and Calcipotriol supplementation to these cells. In his previous research, he looked at Vitamin D deficiency in African American men compared to European American men and whether this deficiency could be the main result of Prostate Cancer health disparities within these two race groups. By understanding the prospective therapeutic effects of novel drugs, he believes we can utilize these treatments to help develop regiments to treat different racial and ethnic health disparities
