Research in Linda Hsieh-Wilson's group combines organic chemistry and neurobiology to probe the molecular basis of fundamental brain processes. Hsieh-Wilson and her students investigate the molecular mechanisms that allow neuronal communication. The group explores chemical changes at a cell's synapse as well as changes in intracellular proteins when nerve cells are stimulated. By understanding these processes, they hope to elucidate the chemical changes that are relevant for learning and memory, and better inform efforts to develop strategies for intervention when these processes break down.
