Honami graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry and psychology. At MHC, she studied genes involved in larval tissue remodeling in Drosophila with Dr. Craig Woodard. After graduation, she worked for two years as a research technician in Dr. Yoshihiko Tanaka's lab at Fukuoka Dental College in Japan. Here she studied behavioral changes associated with maternal immune activation, as well as its molecular mechanisms, using mouse models. Honami is interested in investigating the mechanisms in which people develop neuropsychiatric disorders.
