David graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Computer Science, David volunteered in different labs at Caltech working on projects that bridged neuroscience and artificial intelligence. Prior to beginning his PhD. David held a position at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Artificial Intelligence group. David received his PhD. in September 2021.

During his graduate work in the Gradinaru lab and Thomson lab, he worked to develop a method to better understand the cell types in the brain that get targeted by AAV-based gene therapy delivery (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.25.449955v2), as well as technology to expand the scope of people that can benefit from single-cell transcriptome sequencing by scaling it down to small volumes of self-collected blood (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-77073-3).

After graduating, he co-founded ImYoo (https://imyoo.health), a start-up focused on bringing single-cell sequencing to people with chronic immune conditions in an effort to establish the high-dimensional, large-scale data needed to make more personalized medicine.
