SDN Shared Postdoctoral Fellows

The T&C Chen Center for Social and Decision Neuroscience is delighted to announce a call for applications for Shared Postdoctoral Fellows. Background information about the Center is available here.
We invite Caltech faculty scientists to submit proposals for Postdoctoral Fellows who will supported for up to 2 years. Project funding is intended to provide seed money for highly adventurous projects that are expected to provide proofs of concept as a basis for larger-scale grants. These should not be "business as usual" projects; instead, there is a preference for new or boundary-crossing collaborations across the wide range of Caltech neuroscience, provided they are about social and decision neuroscience. That's the reason we are requiring two or more Caltech faculty to apply to share a Postdoctoral Fellow. Postdocs who are currently at Caltech will not be supported. Note that the SDN Center typically supports studies with or about human subjects. However, work with non-human animals that is highly informative about human decisions can be considered.
Applications will be judged on scientific merit and adherence to the principles described in this call. Funds are to be used for research purposes only and not for personal expenses. Under-represented minority candidates will be fully supported for 2 years; other candidates will be supported for 1.5 years (the successful applicants are expected to provide the additional .5 year support for the 2-year term). We expect to make up to three awards, and to continue the program with a new funding round in 2022, budget permitting.
Proposals should include:
- 4-page description of 1-2 projects the Postdoctoral Fellow will participate in (including any figures and references, 1-inch margins 12-point font)
- Budget justification
- Brief description of how the Fellow's time will be shared by each PI in their collaboration, including whether one PI is the primary supervisor.
- Division Approval Form (DAF): Please note that if you are submitting a proposal with collaboration between labs in different divisions then the DAF must be signed by all Division Chairs.
Submission deadline is Friday, November 12, 2021.
Please submit proposals here by attaching your proposal to the email in this link: 2022_Ch.wxxf5bi4j88pm4ry@u.box.com The proposal attachment should be a single pdf file that contains the 4 items listed above. Name your attached proposal as follows: Shared Postdoctoral Fellow_Last Name(s)
For example, a proposal submission from Jane Doe would be named " Shared Postdoctoral Fellow_Doe"
Your proposal will be uploaded to Box and you will receive a confirmation email from Box within a few hours of submission. If you do not receive a confirmation email after 24 hours, please contact us directly at Chen.Inst@caltech.edu
Submissions will be reviewed by the SDN Center Director and a committee of Caltech neuroscience faculty members, and outside peers if necessary. Recipients will be announced on November 29, 2021.
